I prefer this Stephen King quote on the passive: "Adverbs, like the passive voice, seem to have been created with the timid writer in mind ..." What I like about it is that he uses the passive voice to argue against using the passive voice. Irony much? hahaha

It demonstrates just how much the passive construction is part of natural English.
